I am new to Apple, having recently purchased a Macbook & iPhone and my question may seem simple, but is there a way to copy information from contacts, especially birthdays, into iCal or calender on iPhone? I thought it would do this automatically since I have filled the birthday field for most of my contacts, but it doesn't seem to. Any ideas? Macbook Mac OS X (10.5.5)

ICal includes a Birthdays calendar which pulls birthday entries from contacts in the Address Book.
Go to iCal preferences and select show birthdays calendar. It will appear in iCal automatically. If you have all calendars selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, the new birthday calendar that you enabled with iCal will be transferred to and be available on your iPhone. ?
