O2’s exclusive deal is under threat

Apple has signed deals in some countries that would exclusively carry the second-generation iPhone including O2 in United Kingdom. But now, the exclusive deal between Apple Inc. and O2 is said to be under threat. Several mobile phone operators in the same area are now taking advantage of the renegotiation period between O2 and Apple Inc.

Telefonica’s O2 said in a recent interview that the second-generation iPhone that was one sale last July 11 is the fastest-selling handset that their company carried. Just a few days after the debut of the the 3G iPhone, it immediately sold out and O2’s stock is not enough to meet the demands of the customers.

Unfortunately, the status of O2 as the exclusive carrier of the 3G iPhone is under threat especially when 2009 comes. Rumors had it that a O2’s rival, Orange, is trying to get a deal with Apple Inc. so that they too can carry the 3G iPhone in UK. But Tom Alexander, the CEO of Orange, did not give a comment regarding the issue. He only said that they would love to carry the iPhone especially now that their company has a big influence on mobile data services.

Matthew Key, the boss of O2 and the CEO of Telefonica, said that they are extremely satisfied with their company’s relationship with Apple Inc. and vice versa.
