You can view them in an e-mail. Simply attach a doc to your e-mail and send it to yourself.
The iphone does not support disk mode (like and ipod) and therefore does not store documents. powerbook g4 Mac OS X (10.5.1) airport express, iphone, ipod

Why does the iphone not support disk mode? 16gb and I cant store files except music and videos? Apple must be too lazy to port the programs that worked on the ipods.
I guess this phone really is just a toy and/or a hook to get me to buy more stuff on itunes. Time for a new phone....

What if I don't want to use my iPhone for email? I get about 500 messages daily at my main account. I really don't want that dumping onto my iPhone. I guess I can set up some dummy account just to transfer files to the iPhone but that sounds rather kludgy. (Although, having email the only way to send a file to my iPhone is already pretty lame, so what's a little more lameness?)
Is there no simple way to get a PDF file over to the iPhone? I can "Add" them to iTunes, which recognizes them with a little book icon, but they don't seem to synch.
I tried putting the 17MB PDF on a web server and then using the iPhone's Safari to browse there - it took forever for it to open the PDF and when it did every page was blank. It also doesn't seem to store it, it slowly re-downloads it every time I try to play with it.
I think it's pretty clear that the iPhone just doesn't do PDF.

There are several programs that others have reported will work. I don't know how well they work.
You can do a forum search or search the App Store in itunes for Apps that may meet your needs. powerbook g4, iMac 20 Mac OS X (10.5.1) airport express, iphone, ipod, ipod touch

There are a few apps around that will let you transfer PDFs, DOCs and some other formats to the phone, as well as view and edit them. Try AirSharing, Discover, or Documents. You can also transfer and view PDFs with Stanza, you need to download and install Stanza Desktop on your computer. http://www.lexcycle.com/
Hope this helps. Dell Inspiron 6400 Windows XP

There are many file transfer/storage apps in itunes that let you transfer and read all doc/image formats. I use "Air Sharing" and it works very well. Also it handles PDF viewing just fine and transfer is easy over WiFi. HAL Other OS The size of a spaceship
